Robert F. Osborne Memorial Award in Human Kinetics An award is going to be endowed in memory of Professor Robert F. Osborne's outstanding service as coach, teacher and administrator during his 33 years as a faculty member at UBC, 27 of them as Director of the School of Physical Education and Recreation. The award is available to undergraduate students entering the final year of the BHK degree who have exhibited excellence in academics, athletics, and service in sport and recreation. The award is made on the recommendation of the School of Human Kinetics in consultation with a representative of the Osborne family. Bob Osborne was a fixture on the UBC campus, and his efforts brought international recognition to The School, the university, the province, and Canada.
	He was the Director of The School of Human Kinetics from 1952 to 1978 Bob went to the 1936 Berlin Olympics as an athlete, the 1948 London Olympics as a coach, and the 1956 Melbourne Olympics as a manager He served as a captain in the Canadian army during World War II. Taught at Lord Byng High School in Vancouver He was inducted into the four different sport halls of fame Helped organized the 1954 Commonwealth Games in Vancouver Help found the BC Amateur Sport Council and the Vancouver Field Sports Federation Served as President of the BC Parks and Recreation Association Assisted with the creation of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (now Canadian Interuniversity Sport - CIS) Served as Vice-President and long time member of the Canadian Olympic Committee Named to the Order of Canada in 1981 Received the International Olympic Committee Award in 1984 The Robert F. Osborne Gymnasium Complex on the UBC campus carries his name
