Membership policies

Validation of Your Membership
Your membership card will only be valid for the dates designated on your program registration confirmation. The card will not be valid (will not work) outside of the designated dates as stated on your confirmation.

Right of Refusal
The School of Human Kinetics and the UBC Physical Activity For Life program reserve the right to cancel your membership at any time if a member disregards specific instructions from any Fitness Centre employee, demonstrates threatening behavior to Centre staff or facility patrons, falsifies membership status or cards, demonstrates general disregard for Centre policy and procedure.
Presentation of Your Membership Card is required each time you enter the Fitness Centre. You will be required to present your card to the Fitness Centre Supervisor where it will be scanned at the front desk.

First Time Membership
Participants registering as a first time members must register in person so that we can...

  • have your signature on our membership forms
  • administer a physical activity readiness questionnaire (PAR-Q)
  • provide you with a photo ID card.


PAR-Q
If you are signing up for a BodyWorks™ membership, it is our policy that you fill out a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q) form. The PAR-Q form helps to identify individuals who are at risk of becoming injured or ill due to physical excercise. Those who are unable to answer "NO" to all questions on the form must obtain a doctor's note to participate.

Refund Policy
Refunds are not granted for any membership pass except for medical reasons (in which case a note from a physician must be provided).

All Memberships and Membership Cards are non-transferable.


Lost Membership Cards
Please notify the front desk if you card is lost or stolen (604-822-0207). A new card will be issued to you at no additional cost.

Attire
All members of the Fitness Centre must wear appropriate attire at all times. Specific guidelines regarding attire can be addressed with the Fitness Centre staff. The Staff does have the right to refuse your entry to the Centre based on inappropriate dress.


  FACILITY RULES AND REGULATIONS  

MEMBERS:
  • Always present your membership card when entering the facility
  • Use only equipment on which you have been properly instructed
  • No food, chewing gum or glass water bottles
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • Return free weights and all other equipment after use
  • Wear appropriate training attire (ie. no open-toed shoes)
  • Spotter required for heavy lifts
  • Collars must be used on all bars at all times
  • Wipe contacted surfaces with the provided spray bottle and towel after use
  • We are not responsible for any lost or stolen property
IN CONSIDERATION OF OTHERS:
  • Refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes, aftershaves and other scented products
  • Do not drop or bang weights
  • Keep the Keiser strength training machines clear for those circuit training
  • Refrain from the use of cell phones in the fitness centre
  • 20 minute limit on all cardio machines when people are waiting
  • Immediately report any equipment malfunctions or injuries to a staff member
  • Patron’s may not leave children unattended while using the fitness centre
  • No storage of bikes, skateboards in the facility
NON-MEMBERS:
  • Only BodyWorks™-employed Personal Trainers are permitted to work within the facility
  • Minors (≤ 18 years) are not permitted to use the facility unless accompanied at all times by a BodyWorks™-employed Personal Trainer
  • Students attending HKIN labs within the fitness centre must check in with Fitness Centre Supervisor
Respect and obey ALL Fitness Centre Supervisors in the enforcement of these rules and regulations.
