Osborne Parking Lot Closed Permanently as of February 1st, 2010

Please note that as of February 1st, 2010 the Osborne Parking Lot (located between Osborne Centre Unit 2 and the UBC Tennis Centre) will close permanently. UBC Parking has been planning to close this lot for some time, and it is fortunate that it was available for as long as it was. The Osborne parking lot is to become a fire access lane only.

The good news is that an agreement has been reached with UBC Parking to allow for a parking discount voucher system, in which UBC BodyWorks Fitness Centre members and UBC Gymnastics clients are able to park in the Thunderbird Parkade (the large parkade north east of Osborne Centre) at a discounted rate. For detailed instructions, please see Thunderbird Parkade - Voucher System Instructions (.pdf)

Members will now be able to park their vehicle in the UBC Thunderbird Parkade at a discounted rate of $1.00 per half hour. Members may receive this parking discount only if they submit a parking voucher to the kiosk attendant on duty or the exit machines in the Thunderbird Parkade. Members may obtain a parking voucher from the front desk staff in the fitness centre after they have parked.

Road Closure Details Released for the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. How Will It Affect Our Programs?

As many of you are well aware, the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are just around the corner. The UBC Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre, now known as the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, will serve as the host venue for Men's and Women's Ice Hockey and Men's Sledge Hockey.

This Olympic venue is located right next door to the UBC BodyWorks Fitness Centre. As a consequence, access to the UBC BodyWorks Fitness Centre and UBC campus will be limited for vehicle traffic.

For full details on road closures and dates, please visit the UBC 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Secretariat; a detailed map can be found on their website. In addition to these road closures, there will also be some parking lot changes:

  • The Thunderbird Parkade will close on February 1st and will re-open on Feb 25th
  • The Thunderbird Parkade will stay open for the duration of the Paralympics (March 12-21), however only half of the parking lot will be available
  • The Osborne parking lot (between Osborne Centre Unit 2 and the UBC Tennis Centre) will close on February 1st and will remain closed permanently
  • Disabled persons parking will still be available on the south end of Osborne Centre Unit 2 until February 1st
  • Disabled persons parking at Osborne Centre Unit 2 will re-open on March 22nd
  • We will have 7 parking spots reserved for drop-off and pick-up only in parking lot C2 (located north of the UBC Tennis Centre-accessed from Agronomy Road). There will also be an additional drop-off zone located on Health Science Mall @ Thunderbird Blvd

If you have any questions regarding access to the UBC BodyWorks Fitness Centre during the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, please contact the registration desk at 604-822-0207.
